Laser diode supply

Special feature of a laser diode driver

aser diodes and LEDs are virtually omnipresent today and can now be found in almost all situations. Naturally, their areas of application and operating points are also extremely diverse.
However, laser diodes are also very sensitive to incorrect operating conditions, meaning that voltage spikes or current overshoots, for example, can drastically reduce the service life of a laser diode or even destroy it completely in an instant.
For this reason, there are current drivers designed specifically for this application that supply the modules with the individually appropriate operating parameters. It is essential that the drivers generate virtually no overshoots and also feature various mechanisms to ensure the safety of people and machines.

Areas of application

There is hardly an industry today that can imagine doing without laser diode applications. In the consumer sector, they can be found in everything from milliwatt laser pointers and Blu-ray players to LIDAR systems in modern cars. However, laser diodes with very high power ratings up to the kilowatt range are now used in particular in industrial, medical, and increasingly military applications. For analysis purposes, this can mean low power with very low noise, but DC currents of up to hundreds of amps and pulse currents in the kA range are also in demand, as are ultra-short pulses spanning over 8 orders of magnitude, from the nanosecond range to milliseconds.

Schulz-Electronic's range of diode lasers

We offer a very wide range of diode laser drivers, particularly in the higher power range from optical outputs of several dozen watts to hundreds of kilowatts for laboratory use, but especially for the OEM sector.

  • DC sources with extremely low output ripple in the µA range up to rack systems of hundreds of kW.
  • Different topologies enable the generation of current pulses from the nanosecond range and analog modulation capability up to the MHz range, as well as pulse powers up to 500 kW peak.
  • Medically certified or industrial AC/DC systems, as well as DC/DC drivers with buck (step-down) and boost (step-up) topologies for virtually any integration requirement in stationary and mobile applications.
  • For the safety requirements of diode laser systems, Schulz-Electronic offers unique safety solutions up to Performance Level e (according to DIN EN 13849-1).
